Owen Contemporary is proud to present Vivid Tranquility, a dynamic two-person exhibition featuring new works by Amy Van Winkle and Lynn Sanders. The opening reception will be held on Friday, September 12th from 4 to 6 p.m. at the gallery’s location at 225 Canyon Road. All are welcome to attend and meet the artists.

Vivid Tranquility explores the interplay between energy and stillness, capturing the harmony that can exist between bold movement and quiet reflection. Both Van Winkle and Sanders are celebrated for their rich, layered approaches to painting—using texture and color as both structure and emotion. While their palettes may burst with vivacious hues, moments of stillness emerge, inviting viewers into spaces of serenity and contemplation.

Amy Van Winkle’s encaustic paintings are built up through a meditative process of heating, scraping, and layering beeswax and pigment. The result is work that feels both luminous and grounded—alive with motion, yet rooted in silence.

Lynn Sanders’ abstract works similarly rely on the gradual build-up of color and surface. Her compositions pulse with rhythm and life, but also offer soft, atmospheric moments that create a sense of calm within the layers of energy.

Together, these two artists present a body of work that reflects the dual nature of experience—how the vivid and the tranquil can co-exist and amplify one another.
